The annual Alliance of Ukrainian Universities Forum has begun. Over the past decade of the Russian-Ukrainian war, universities have faced significant challenges, necessitating a reevaluation of approaches to university management to ensure their resilience. Today, Alliance member universities, along with business representatives, shared their successful practices and challenges encountered during the war. The forum initiated important discussions, and the Alliance aims to continue sharing experiences to disseminate successful practices.

The forum, titled “Management of Higher Education Institutions in Times of War,” commenced today at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. This year’s forum focuses on issues such as talent search and recruitment in the education market, strategic change management, business involvement in collaboration, including participation in university supervisory boards, tools for financial sustainability, and building cooperation in the “business-government-community” triangle.
During three sessions today, participants discussed financial and non-financial motivational mechanisms for the development of teachers and staff, models for ensuring employee stability, the powers of university supervisory boards, and the cost of education in a financially sustainable university.
Simultaneously, the forum provided an excellent opportunity for representatives of higher education institutions to work together on current educational problems, challenges, and ways to solve them, as well as to exchange experiences and valuable contacts.

“The Alliance of Ukrainian Universities Forum once again proved to be a unique platform for open, professional, and productive communication among representatives of higher education, business, government, and the public. The extraordinary atmosphere of the forum stimulated participants to have frank discussions on key topics of crisis management, to seek creative and effective solutions, to engage in active networking, and to foster friendly cooperation,” said Kostyantyn Kyrychenko, Head of the Department of International Cooperation at Sumy State University.
Tomorrow, forum participants will discuss, in a world café format, the balance between the corporate and autonomous university, business involvement in university activities, and the impact of business on changes in universities. Additionally, methodological recommendations for Ukrainian state universities within the project “University Transformation through Comprehensive Diagnostics,” carried out by the Ivanchyk Family Charity Foundation with the support of the Swiss Embassy, will be presented.
